Streets Without Herbicide Project

Nigella flowers

Weeding by hand instead of spraying glyphosate

The Council has to maintain our streets and sidewalks free of weeds. It uses glyphosate, a weed killer or herbicide, to supress them which kills all plants even those beneficial to insects or important for local biodiversity. We have negotiated an end to this practice with Council in exchange for neighbours on each street going out twice a year to clear their streets from weeds after plants have flowered.
