Whalley Range Community Garden

Come and Grow!

Every Saturday from 1.30pm onwards the community garden is open to anybody who wants to come and join in. We are located at the Carlton Club, Rowan Lodge, 113 Carlton Rd, Manchester M16 8BE. No skill or knowledge is necessary as learning through participation is encouraged. All tools and materials are provided by the club. Alternatively, just bring a picnic and have a chat!

What are we doing?

The Carlton Club Community Garden was established several years ago and has now become a vital and integral part of the Carlton Club. Founder Helene Rudlin initiated the garden's organic ethos and fundamental philosophy of regeneration, rewilding and community impact. The garden has grown to include dedicated vegetable plots, fruit trees and berries, rewilding areas, wild flower gardens and a polytunnel. The volunteers work together to grow vegetables and flowers as well as maintain the grounds of the Carlton Club. Everything we grow together is shared out amongst volunteers and the community.

Children are very welcome to become green fingered or explore the safe harbour of the Carlton grounds which provide wonderful stimulation to active young minds. Scrambling through the shrubs and trees or playing sports on the field, an area uninhabited by screens or toys, allows imaginations to soar and healthy spirits thrive. After school clubs run intermittently as well. The Carlton Club Community Garden has long arms in the wider community too. These projects embrace smaller gardens throughout Whalley Range, local parks, alley projects, spraying prevention - so many things to potentially become involved in.
